Abington Memorial Hospital (AMH) is a 665-bed, regional referral center and teaching hospital, which has been providing comprehensive, high-quality services for people in Montgomery, Bucks and Philadelphia counties for more than 90 years. AMH employs over 5,600 employees, making AMH one of the largest employers in Montgomery County. The hospital's medical staff consists of over 900 physicians, including primary care, medical and surgical specialists. More than 1,100 volunteers give their time and talents to support this not-for-profit hospital, and AMH provides more than $45 million in free care to our community each year.

Recently, AMH acquired Lansdale Hospital (formerly Central Montgomery Medical Center), a 125-bed, acute care hospital that provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient healthcare services. With more than 300 physicians and 700 employees, the facility includes a 24-hour Emergency Department, a 13-bed Acute Rehabilitation Unit, a Sleep Care Unit and a Wound Care Center.
Abington Health Center—Schilling Campus serves as a major satellite of the hospital. Outpatient healthcare services such as laboratory testing, radiology (including CT scan, MRI, mammography and x-ray), same day surgery, psychiatric services, sleep center, wound care and diabetes education, as well as physician offices, are available in this convenient location in Willow Grove. Just ten minutes north of the hospital, the Schilling Campus occupies 40 acres in five separate buildings.
Abington Health Center—Warminster Campus offers a variety of outpatient services, such as laboratory testing, radiology (including MRI, mammography and x-ray), cardiology services, The Sleep Center and The Institute for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, as well as physician offices. Community health services and programs, including blood pressure screening and diabetes education, are also available at the Bucks County facility.
Abington Physicians at Montgomeryville provides convenient access to top doctors and advanced technology for central Montgomery County residents. In addition to an open MRI, laboratory testing and nuclear medicine stress testing, cardiology, neurosurgery, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, primary care and rehabilitation services are available.
Education at Abington Memorial Hospital
Abington Memorial Hospital was founded as a teaching hospital and currently sponsors five residency programs for physicians in family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, general surgery and dentistry. The hospital operates the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing and the Radiologic Technology program. Numerous health education classes, screenings, helplines and support groups are available at little or no cost to the community.
Patient Safety
Abington Memorial Hospital is a leader in the area of patient safety, and has earned numerous national awards for its programs. The hospital is a past recipient of the prestigious Quest for Quality award, recognizing leadership and innovation in patient care quality and safety.
To promote the delivery of safe, high-quality health care - one of AMH's five key organizational pillars - the hospital has created a Center for Patient Safety and Health Care Quality. The Center for Safety and Quality (CSQ) brings together personnel committed to clinical safety and quality under the same leadership.
Magnet Designation
In 2003, Abington Memorial Hospital became the first acute care hospital in the Philadelphia region to receive Magnet designation, one of the nation's highest forms of recognition for nursing excellence. AMH received Magnet re-designation in 2008. Only 13 other hospitals in the State of Pennsylvania and just five percent of hospitals nationwide (289) have received this four-year accreditation that is effective until 2012.
Awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Magnet designation recognizes quality patient care and exemplary nursing leadership.
In addition, AMH won one of the most prestigious awards in nursing, The Magnet Prize, in 2008 for its Daily CARE Plan (a patient information sheet that provides current and relevant information regarding the patient's plan of care, which is distributed each day to patients and their families). Bestowed to one Magnet hospital each year by the ANCC, The Magnet Prize recognizes extraordinary inventions that transform work environments. This award serves as a means for acknowledging peak performance within credentialed Magnet organizations and recognizes cutting-edge research, practices, services, technologies, programs or other exemplary innovations with demonstrable positive outcomes.
