Patient Safety First Campaign

Abington Memorial Hospital and our Center for Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality are engaged in an extensive Patient Safety First campaign to make patient safety a priority for all of our staff members. It incorporates extensive training, enhanced staff communication and frequent reminders - such as screensavers on every computer terminal in the hospital - that underscore the importance of following specific safety procedures every day.

These include, for exampling, calling a "timeout" with healthcare team members immediately before any invasive procedure to confirm that the staff has the correct:

• Patient
• Procedure
• Site
• Positioning
• Implants and any special equipment or requirements available.
