Keeping You Safe
Your safe passage through our hospital system is our primary concern. In the "Keeping You Safe" section are examples of types of events that have received national media attention. They illustrate the efforts we are undertaking to reduce the chances of them occurring here at AMH.
Prevention of Wrong-Site Surgery
Patients undergoing a procedure or surgery at AMH are protected in a variety of ways:
- Most importantly, we encourage a culture of safety amongst our staff.
- We stress team-based communication. Our nurses and doctors are rigorously trained in team communication safety principles. Any member of your care team can comfortably'stop the line' - essentially stop a procedure or surgery - if they have a concern. No other hospital in the Delaware Valley has focused on this team building initiative as much as we have.
- We have a multiple-step'Time Out' process prior to procedures. This timeout allows for all members of the team (including you!) to verify that all of the information about the pending procedure is correct.
- AMH is participating in the Partnership for Patient Care project. Sponsored through the ECRI, a nonprofit health services research organization, the project's goal is to enhance learning and spread best practices in methods of preventing wrong-site surgery.
