Hospital Volunteering

About AMH's Hospital Volunteer Program

At Abington Memorial Hospital, volunteers are a significant part of the health care team. More than 1,100 volunteers help in various roles at the hospital's main and adjunct campuses and in physician practice offices around the community.

We appreciate your interest in helping others, and will try to find an assignment that meets your needs and supports the staff and patients of Abington Memorial Hospital. There are opportunities for you to serve during the day, in the evening and on weekends. Generally, a minimum of a once-a-week commitment for six months is preferred, although some short-term, project assignments are available.

Benefits of Volunteering

Volunteering offers you the chance to use your existing skills to help others. It can also give you the opportunity to develop new skills, make friends, explore a career in health care, and gain experience in a work situation. In addition, you receive the following benefits:

  • on-the-job training so that you may carry out your volunteer assignment
  • free attendance at hospital-sponsored educational workshops
  • a complimentary meal in the hospital cafeteria (for four-hour or longer shifts)
  • an invitation to our annual volunteer recognition luncheon
