The Mary T. Sachs Breast Center Expansion

Women leaders rally support for Mary T. Sachs
Breast Center

A group of women leaders has taken on the challenge of raising $1.3 million to expand and enhance the services of the Mary T. Sachs Breast Center at Abington Memorial Hospital. The committee, also called The Power of Women Committee, is co-chaired by Gail Faulkner and Karen Dougherty Buchholz, with Alice Sachs serving as honorary chair.

The Mary T. Sachs Breast Center, directed by Linda Griska, M.D., provides advanced breast-imaging services and early detection that can save lives. Accredited by the American College of Radiology, the Center provides services that include digital mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI and image-guided, needle breast biopsies. Studies are performed by a staff of board-certified registered technologists and are interpreted by board-certified radiologists with expertise in breast imaging and breast interventional procedures. The Center's imaging technology is further enhanced by computer-aided detection, or CAD. This sophisticated, interpretive software helps radiologists and physicians identify specific features on medical images.

The Breast Center, located on the hospital's Schilling Campus, serves more than 2,500 women every month. The Center is nearing the limit of its capacity and needs to expand to fulfill its vision for enhanced care. Gifts to the Mary T. Sachs Breast Center will:

  • Increase advanced imaging capability
  • Add 3,000 square feet of new space by expanding into an adjacent property
  • Expand important space for waiting rooms, dressing rooms, conferences and consultations
  • Install new computer work stations for both staff and patients to provide immediate, easy access to digital imaging and library resources
  • Renovate all interior spaces to improve patient flow, enhance patient privacy and provide a more beautiful, modern and soothing environment

"This campaign is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of women in our community," says Gail Faulkner, co-chair of the Committee.
