Infant Massage offers many benefits to both parents and babies. These benefits include relieving baby's discomfort from gas, colic and constipation by aiding the natural digestive process. It improves both lymphatic and blood circulation through gentle stroking and stretching, and enhances the development of a baby's immune and neurological systems. Infant Massage helps to increase alertness in a baby along with a heightened awareness and communication between a parent and child. This also helps to reduce stress hormones while increasing bonding and breast milk producing hormones. The art of Infant Massage is taught in a 90-minutes class that provides parents with a book, review of massage techniques video and opportunity to try massage techniques in class with their baby. A sample of a commonly used massage oil will be offered to parents to try in the class. Bring a towel if you would like to participate in the massage demonstration/review. This class can be taken prior to your birth or a few weeks after your baby has arrived. Newborn massage on a healthy full-term infant is beneficial and has been known to improve infant's sleep, reduce jaundice and enhance a new parent's ability to understand their baby's needs. The class is instructed by a Registered Nurse who is a certified Infant Massage Instructor.
