Resident Training Programs
A commitment to providing exceptional patient care has earned Abington Memorial Hospital recognition as a major regional teaching facility that offers a full spectrum of clinical experiences and a rigorous academic program.
Abington has in its program each year more than 110 residents in family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery and dentistry. Residents rotating from university centers in orthopaedic surgery, plastic surgery, urology and neurosurgery add to the academic environment. All training programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Graduate Program Faculty
More than 1,200 residents have trained at Abington Memorial Hospital, and many have remained on the staff following their residency or taken subspecialty training.
Abington supports placement opportunities in all programs, and has enabled residents to obtain advanced graduate training. Abington has a teaching association with Temple University School of Medicine.
Many of Abington's physicians serve on the faculties of the Philadelphia medical schools and are involved in conducting research and publishing regularly. An active program of continuing medical education offers opportunities for physicians and other medical staff to gain the most current knowledge in their specialties.
Requirements
An eligible candidate for residency must be a graduate of a medical school approved by the Pennsylvania State Board and be a U.S. citizen, or a foreign graduate who has successfully met the eligibility requirements of ACGME.
