About the Diabetes Center
The Diabetes Center at Abington
Memorial Hospital is committed to providing comprehensive diabetes
education and counseling services for all aspects of diabetes management.
Its programs are recognized for excellence by the American Diabetes
Association. Both group
classes and individual sessions are offered.
Education Team
The Diabetes Center uses a team approach for education and counseling, with the patient as the key member of the team. Registered nurses and registered dietitians, who are also certified diabetes educators, are dedicated to helping each person gain control of their diabetes while maintaining an optimal state of health and well being. Together, the team designs an individualized plan that matches your lifestyle and educational needs.
Program Goals
By participating in our programs, you will learn:
- how easy it is to check your blood glucose,
- how a meal plan helps control blood glucose,
- how the latest information can help prevent complications, and
- how to use your blood glucose results for better self care.
Program Services
The services offered at The Diabetes Center cover a wide range of topics including meal planning, diabetes medication, preventing complications, exercise and making adjustments for daily living. Program options include:
Comprehensive diabetes education program—
Six sessions where you will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for managing their diabetes. Includes content on all aspects of diabetes self-management.
Intensified self-management training—
Four or more sessions where you will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to adjust your own insulin in relation to day-to-day situations and carbohydrate intake.
Nutrition counseling for diabetes—
One or more private sessions with a registered dietitian specializing in diabetes management. Individual food preferences and lifestyle are incorporated into meal planning strategies that help you improve blood glucose control.
Additional educational services include—
Insulin syringe preparation and self-injection, gestational diabetes management, insulin pump initiation and continuous glucose sensor monitoring.

If you are interested in coming to The Diabetes Center, talk to your doctor. Then, make an appointment with us by calling 215-672-0899. We offer morning, afternoon and evening individual appointments and group classes. We will make every effort to make an appointment that matches your scheduling needs.
Payment
Most insurance plans cover diabetes education and nutrition counseling, although some require a physician’s referral for these services. Insurance information and required referrals must be presented at your appointment. Financial assistance is available for those in need.

How to get to the Abington Memorial Health Center—Schilling Campus
Only 15 minutes north of the hospital, The Diabetes Center of Abington Memorial Hospital is in the Abington Memorial Health Center—Schilling Campus, one-half mile from Route 611 (Easton Road). The center
is on Blair Mill Road, in the Northwood Building, suite E. Use parking lot A or B.
From the Pennsylvania Turnpike, take
exit #343. Go north, toward Doylestown, on Route 611 and turn left on Blair Mill Road. Then turn left into the Abington Memorial Health Center—Schilling Campus. Follow signs to parking lot A or B.
For public transportation, take SEPTA bus 55 to the corner of Easton and Blair Mill roads, and walk the half-mile, or take the bus to Willow Grove Park, and transfer to Breeze 310 which will stop across the street. Call SEPTA at (215) 580-7800 for schedules.

From Abington Memorial Hospital, take Old York
Road (611) Northeast to the traffic light at Davisville Road. Turn right
onto Davisville Road and take it to County Line Road. Turn left onto
County Line Road, stay in the right-hand lane and follow to the traffic
light at Newtown Road. Make a right onto Newtown Road. The Health Center
is one-half mile down Newtown Road on the right.
From Warminster, take Street Road
(Route 132) east to Newtown Road. There is a gas station on the left and
Craven Hall on the right. Turn right onto Newtown Road. The Health Center
is one-half mile down Newtown Road on the left.
