Worcester ER Patient Says:

"I Got to Know the New Lansdale Hospital"

Mike Spotts was quite reluctant when his doctor sent him to Lansdale Hospital's Emergency Department after a bout of dizziness. "I just remembered the old North Penn Hospital, but from the moment I walked in the door, it was service, service, service," Mike says.

"My symptoms turned out to be minor in the scheme of things, but the doctors and nurses at Lansdale Hospital took no chances. I was so busy getting attention and testing that I could not keep track of all the people I wanted to thank."

So Mike followed his hospital experience (he was admitted overnight for observation and further testing) by sharing it with the readers of The Reporter. "I was so delighted and surprised, that I felt I had to do something," Mike adds.

Lansdale Hospital, a member of Abington Health, appreciates the opportunity to show residents of the North Penn area, Hatfield Township, and beyond the clinical processes and customer service initiatives that have been implemented. Abington Memorial Hospital's emergency medicine physicians, led by Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Kendel G. Kidwell, MD, are now supervising all emergency care at both Abington and Lansdale Hospitals.

Nancy G. Hesse, RN, a longtime nursing director of Abington's Emergency Trauma Center, assumed the role of chief nursing officer for all of Lansdale Hospital, assisting the staff in process enhancements for patient, physician and employee satisfaction.

Volume in the Emergency Department alone is up 15 percent in the last quarter. Patients are finding expanded clinical services and the best practices in place throughout the hospital. Mike adds, "I asked the nurses, ‘am I in a hotel?'" when a flower appeared on my tray for breakfast. Then I was visited by Dr. Kraynak, who asked me to call him ‘Joe.' It turns out that besides being the cardiologist in charge of my care, he is the chief of staff of all of Lansdale Hospital. He just stopped in to make sure my needs were being met.

"The chief of staff!" Michael exclaims. "And he made me feel like he had all the time in the world to talk to me."

Dr. Kraynak explains, "We have terrific professionals here that have served this community for a long time, and we are dedicated to continuously enhancing the way we deliver patient and family-centered care. Every patient is unique and we are committing the resources to becoming the provider of choice in the region."

Mike recognizes that commitment. "It's a reassuring feeling knowing Lansdale Hospital is here to stay," he says. "The community can rest easy now. We have a high quality hospital in our region, and it will be there when we need it."

Thanks, Mike, for spreading the news. And look for many more good things from Lansdale Hospital.
