Accommodations are usually made in advance by your physician who will supply you with a form to fill out and send to the hospital. If the accommodation you desire is not available on admission, another room must be assigned and you will be billed at the rate of the room you occupy.
You may request that your room be private by speaking with your nurse or physician. Your request will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. There is an additional charge for private rooms and this charge is generally not covered by your insurance.
Your Hospital Bed
Hospital beds can be adjusted by using the controls. The beds are equipped with side rails that must be raised while you are asleep or sedated. Should you need assistance, please call your nurse.
All rooms in the Hospital are centrally heated and air conditioned. If the temperature in your room is not comfortable, please notify the nursing staff.
Calling Your Nurse
All rooms, except the Intensive/Coronary Care are equipped with an intercom system. Patient bathrooms are also equipped with an emergency call system. You will receive instructions in their use.
During the Night
For assistance during the night, use your call button to alert the nursing staff of your needs.
Television sets are provided in each room for your enjoyment. For a listing of all channels and services, please refer to the program guide in your room.
You may call all local and long distance numbers by simply dialing "7" on the telephone at your bedside. After you hear a dial tone, dial the number you wish to call. All long distance calls will be charged to your home telephone or credit card. Patient room telephones are equipped with a direct inward dialing (DID) capability. Callers can reach patient rooms directly by dialing the correct extension number. Patients may call out at any time. If it is necessary to restrict your telephone calls, the physician will explain the restriction to you and your family. You may participate in the decision.
Leaving the Unit
Please check with your physician or nurse to determine if you have walking privileges. An escort may be necessary even if you do have walking privileges. Please notify your nurse upon leaving and returning to the unit. It is important to stay in your room until your doctor has made rounds and treatments have been completed.
