Services for Inpatients

A variety of services are available to help make your stay as comfortable as possible. Information desks and house telephones are located inside the Main Entrance, and the Widener and Highland entrances. The Elkins Entrance has a house telephone.

Mail Delivery

Incoming mail should be addressed as follows: Patient name, building, floor, room, bed number, Abington Memorial Hospital, 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001. Mail is delivered to rooms Mondays through Fridays. If mail arrives after discharge, it will be forwarded to a patient's home if possible, or returned to senders.

Television Rental

Television service, which includes local channels and cable selections, is available for a daily fee. The current rate is listed on your TV screen. The TeleHealth system provides free informational, educational and spiritual programming on your television set. These "smart televisions" are actually computer servers that have allowed us to increase the capacity of offerings for patients. They provide more control over what and when patients watch on this free channel. For information, ask your nurse or dial extension 2299. Closed caption channels are also available.

Please be considerate of other patients and refrain from using your television between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. If you are experiencing service problems, call extension 2299.

Hair Care

Hairdresser and barber service are available. To schedule an appointment, call 215-481-2499 or 215-489-4048 and leave a message.

Protect Your Valuables

Patients are reminded not to keep possessions such as jewelry or money at home, or locked in their rooms. Small items may become lost in unfamiliar hospital surroundings. (See Preparing for Your Hospital Stay)

Newspapers

Newspapers are available for purchase in the Rainbow Gift Shop and the Fountain Gift Shop.

We want to ensure that patients are comfortable in their rooms. If there is a question or concern, please dial inhouse extension 2320.

Chaplains and Worship

Chaplains are available to visit 24 hours daily and may be contacted by asking a nurse, or calling 215-481-2700.

The Harbison Chapel is located on the ground floor between the Highland and Widener buildings and is open 24 hours daily for personal meditation by patients or visitors. Interfaith services lasting 10 minutes are held daily at 9:30 a.m. On Sundays, an interfaith service lasting 20 minutes is held at 11 a.m.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Chapel is located on the third floor, Toll Pavilion, and is also open 24 hours daily.

In-hospital television: Televised interfaith devotions services are available at any time by accessing the patient television menu selections.

Telephone Service

There is a small daily charge for phone service in inpatient rooms. If you do not want to pay for outgoing phone service, notify Telephone Operations at extension 7580 as soon as possible after arriving in your room. More information is available in your patient services in the room.

Notary Service

Hospital notary service is available at no charge to patients. For more information, call Patient Relations at extension 2499 or ask your nurse.

Escort Services

Staff in our Escort Department transport patients to and from testing areas within the hospital, as well as help discharge patients leaving at the end of their stays. The department makes every effort to respond as quickly as possible and keep waiting times to a minimum.

Smoke-Free Environment

Abington Memorial Hospital is a smoke-free campus.
