Parenting Education

As part of its continuing effort to promote family education, Abington Memorial Hospital is the founding sponsor of The Center for Parenting Education. The center provides a place for parents to learn and practice essential skills needed for healthy parenting in today's world. These educational tools will be provided through a variety of informative workshops as well as a weekly discussion group, known as Play'n Share. During these weekly sessions, parents will be able to share their parenting concerns amongst themselves and two trained parenting educators while their children play.

The hospital is pleased to collaborate with Lakeside Youth Service's Parenting Resource Education Network (PREN) in the development of area community-based parenting centers. A PREN parenting center is designed to build healthy families by preparing parents with effective principles, approaches and skills essential for healthy parenting. PREN provides the center with program design, licensed educational materials, comprehensive training programs, a complete certification program, apprenticeship for staff and parenting educators, research updates, continuing education for parenting educators and consultation for center growth and development. PREN also provides ground rules for every educational session.
