Abington Family Medicine Residency Program
Greetings and welcome to the Abington Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency website. If you have chosen family medicine as your specialty, congratulations! We believe that family medicine is a wonderfully rewarding and challenging specialty that provides primary care to our communities. Our Residency Program, established in 1973, is fully accredited by the ACGME and has grown into a nationally recognized program of excellence, where both the residents and faculty contribute to the medical literature and educate physicians regularly at both regional and national conferences.
Situated approximately one mile from Abington Memorial Hospital and just outside the Philadelphia city limits, our new Family Medicine Center provides evidence-based, compassionate and personalized care to over 20,000 patients every year. Our patient population is diverse in age (38 percent pediatrics), ethnicity (over half of our patients are Hispanic, African American or Korean) and in need (over 40 percent have medical assistance or are uninsured and receive clinic rate).
Our graduating residents have practiced in rural, suburban, urban, military, National Health Service, emergency room, sports medicine and academic settings throughout the country and have a 100 percent first time pass rate on the ABFM Boards. The faculty takes pride in their diversity of interests, experience and education and ability to teach and practice academic family medicine in a community setting.
Abington Memorial Hospital is one of the busiest hospitals in the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley area and has won numerous national awards for patient safety and quality of care. The hospital has a rich history of commitment to medical education of residents and students and has freestanding residencies in family medicine, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and dentistry.
