Resident Call Responsibilities

Interns take call every four to five nights on average.  The majority of their calls, up to six months of the year, are covering the pediatric service.  On rotations such as surgery, obstetrics and ICU, call is overnight, in-house.  Calls are an average of every fourth or fifth night covering those respective services.

Second and third year residents are allowed to take the majority of their calls from home, covering admissions for the family medicine inpatient service as well as handling phone calls from patients in our office and affiliated nursing homes.  Calls include approximately seven to eight weekend and fifteen weekday home calls per year.
