If you suffer from arthritis or osteoporosis, have chronic back, muscle or joint pain, or have experienced a sports-related injury, we have advanced joint replacement and minimally invasive surgical options that can get you back in action. The Human Motion Institute at Abington Memorial Hospital gives you the benefit of advanced medical technology and the skill of a team of medical professionals. Physicians at the Human Motion Institute treat a wide variety of disorders affecting the musculoskeletal system, including the care of fractures and injuries to tendons, ligaments, joints, bones and muscles. On staff are specialists in orthopaedics, orthopaedic hand surgery, neurosurgery, rheumatology and rehabilitation medicine.
Our goal is simple: to return our patients to normal function as quickly and safely as possible. To reach this goal, the medical professionals of the Human Motion Institute enlist a comprehensive, leading-edge approach to the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal (muscle and bone) injuries. Our team of surgeons, nurses, physician assistants, rehabilitation specialists and various medical support personnel works with each patient's primary care physician to develop a treatment program specifically for that patient. By combining extensive clinical expertise with a compassionate, caring treatment philosophy, we have created a program known for its quality of care.
Abington Memorial Hospital's commitment to excellence in hip and knee replacement was awarded the Gold Seal of Approval and Disease-Specific Certification from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Abington's joint replacement program, the Human Motion Institute, is the second in Pennsylvania and one of 22 hospitals nationwide to receive this prestigious accreditation.
Orthopaedic surgeons at the Human Motion Institute are experienced in treating patients requiring hip or knee replacements. Our comprehensive program includes evaluation, centralized preadmission, a high-tech operating suite with laminar air flow, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and home care to ensure successful results. State-of-the-art minimal-incision procedures are available for some joint replacement surgeries.
Representing more than a decade of hard work, in February 2010, Independence Blue Cross of Philadelphia designated Abington Memorial Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Spine SurgerySM and as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip ReplacementSM. Blue Distinction Centers for Spine Surgery and Blue Distinction Centers for Knee and Hip Replacement are part of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's expansion of its Blue Distinction® designation (See Press Release).
