Inpatient Stroke Unit
We focus on helping every stroke patient recover well and avoid secondary stroke.
Our stroke patients may spend time in Abington Memorial Hospital’s neurocritical care unit and then continue recovery in our dedicated inpatient stroke unit or our step-down unit.
In this specialized stroke unit, patients receive attention from our neuroscience physicians, stroke nurses and other knowledgeable staff.
Patients are carefully monitored for any signs or symptoms that could indicate a stroke recurrence. Medical treatment to prevent secondary stroke, such as anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy, may be begun.
We help our patients learn how to reduce stroke risks in the future.
While staying in the hospital, patients also benefit from an inpatient stroke rehabilitation program.
