Minimally Invasive Removal of the Intravascular Clot

In this procedure, a micro-catheter is guided from an incision in the groin through the artery to the occlusion (clot). R-TPA may be infused through the micro-catheter to dissolve the clot. Or, a mechanical device may be used to retrieve the clot from the artery. This retrieval device is advanced to the area and the “loops” of the device encircle the clot and then remove it through the catheter. Pieces of the clot may be suctioned out through use of another device.
