Neurology
Neurologists deal with conditions of the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves, and muscles. Stroke, headache, seizures (such as epilepsy), tremor, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis and neuropathy are among the many neurological problems diagnosed and managed by physicians in this specialty.
The hospital is now a Joint Commission-certified Stroke Center. An inpatient rehabilitation unit and outpatient therapy are also available for stroke patients. Electroencephalography (EEG), evoked potentials and transcranial doppler (vascular) studies are among the services performed in the hospital's Neurosciences Laboratory. Intraoperative monitoring utilizing these tests to help ensure continuing nerve function during spinal and brain surgery, is scheduled through the Neurosciences Laboratory. Neurointerventional neurologists offer treatment options for aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), acute stroke, and other vascular diseases of the central nervous system. Electromyography (EMG) may be performed in the specialists' office to diagnose a variety of nerve and muscle disorders. Botulinum Toxin (BOTOX) may be administered here as well.
The hospital has fully accredited Sleep Disorders Centers to evaluate and treat adult and pediatric problems such as sleep apnea, snoring, narcolepsy, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and more.
