Patients and their family members, regardless of their affiliation with the hospital, are invited to attend meetings of the Cancer Support Group, "A New Beginning", "I Can Cope", and "Man to Man."Breast Cancer Support Group 215-481-3191
This self-help group of and for breast cancer patients and their partners provides support and an opportunity to share their experience with others.

Breast Surgery Support Services

Reach to Recovery program sponsored by the American Cancer Society. These volunteers have all undergone some type of breast cancer surgery and offer support for patients undergoing mastectomy, lumpectomy or breast reconstruction. Prosthesis fitting and demonstration programs for post-mastectomy patients are held once a month for any woman needing such advice. To register call 215-481-2490.

Cancer Support Group 215-481-2579

Group support, information and an opportunity to share similar experiences for cancer patients and/or their families/friends may all be found in the Cancer Support Group. Sponsored and facilitated by the Social Work Department. The support group meets the first and third Wednesdays of every month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and is open to all patients, families and friends who are coping with cancer.

Good Nutrition for Cancer Patients 215-481-2527

Eating healthy, nutritional food helps maximize quality of life during and after cancer. Learn how to manage side effects of treatment (nausea, mouth sores, constipation and diarrhea) while maintaining healthy weight. Ask questions and share recipes. The program is based on the "I Can Cope" series by the American Cancer Society, and runs every Monday, 10 to 11 a.m. Registration is not necessary, but please call ahead Monday morning to confirm.

"Look Good...Feel Better" 215-481-2579

This program helps patients deal with the side effects of cancer treatment by teaching them how to work with wigs, scarfs, proper skin care, and how to apply make-up. The sessions are led by trained and certified cosmetologists and are co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Call for information about current dates.

Lung Cancer Care Coordinator 215-481-2403

A lung cancer coordinator is available to help patients with a lung cancer diagnosis. She can help by providing information to aid in decision making about treatments and by navigating the process of scheduling them.

"Man to Man" 215-481-2715

This is a self-help group for men diagnosed with prostate cancer, co-sponsored with the American Cancer Society. This group is designed to provide education, support, and encouragement. The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 6:30 - 8 pm. 215-481-2715.

Reach to Recovery 215-481-2490

Trained volunteers help women with breast cancer meet physical, emotional and cosmetic needs related to the disease and/or treatment. Women who have recently had a mastectomy are invited to a fitting session and a demonstration of available prostheses. Sponsored by the AMH Volunteer Resource Department and the American Cancer Society.

Strength for Caring 215-481-2837

This one-day program provides education and support for family members caring for cancer patients at home. Learn how to provide comprehensive care often required after hospitalization. Also helps caregivers cope with emotional, physical and financial issues while juggling family life and career.

Volunteer Visitation Program 215-481-2490

This volunteer visitation program for women with breast cancer helps meet physical, emotional and cosmetic needs related to the disease and/or treatment. Reach to Recovery volunteers are survivors of breast cancer and have been trained by the American Cancer Society.

Wig Bank 215-481-2579

Wigs are available free to anyone who is experiencing hair loss.
