Prostate Cancer Treatments
(Also see Cancer / Treatments / Hormonal Therapy)
Prostate tumors need the hormone testosterone to grow, but medicines can be used to reduce testosterone levels. Hormonal treatment may help prevent further growth and spread of the cancer. It also may relieve symptoms in men whose cancer has spread.
Medicines known as LH-RH (luteinizing hormone-releasing hormones) agonists and androgen blockers may be given by injection, monthly or every 3 to 6 months.
