Prostate Cancer Treatments
(Also see Cancer / Treatments / Surgery)
Our cancer surgeons perform many prostate cancer surgeries, or prostatectomies, using the minimally-invasive da Vinci® S Surgical System. This robotic technology enables the complex and delicate surgical precision needed for removal of the prostate gland while preserving surrounding nerves.
Compared to traditional open surgery, which uses a large incision, robotic surgery permits the surgeon to better visualize the area and work with greater dexterity and control. The surgeon operates in real-time, using electromechanically enhanced instruments.
Because robotic surgery is minimally invasive, conducted through small incisions, patients also benefit from:
- less blood loss
- fewer transfusions
- ess pain and risk of infection
- a shorter hospital stay
- less scarring
- faster recovery
- a quicker return to normal daily activities
Our advanced operating suites, outfitted with the most technologically up-to-date equipment, promote patient safety and best outcomes.
We focus on the human side of the surgical experience as well. In our patient-friendly operating rooms, nurses provide warm support within a calm and healing environment, known as the Sacred Space that helps put patients at ease. Through soft music, scenic murals, dimmed lighting and our nurses’ gentle touch and dedicated attention, patients receive personal and comforting care.
