Thyroid Cancer Diagnostics
Patients at The Rosenfeld Cancer Center are evaluated with the most up-to-date thyroid cancer diagnostic services. Your care will typically be guided by your endocrinologist who will advise you on the diagnostic testing path needed for your thyroid cancer. Diagnostic testing with the latest technologies is vital for accurately identifying, staging and determining treatment for thyroid cancer.
Some of the tests used to diagnose thyroid cancer include:
- blood tests, including those measuring thyroid hormone levels
- thyroid ultrasound
- examination of larynx (laryngoscopy)
- thyroid uptake and scan, a nuclear medicine test
- biopsy, to examine tissue in laboratory
Depending upon physical examination findings, symptoms or laboratory results, other tests also may be recommended.
Diagnostic testing using advanced technology for all types of cancer is available at all Abington Health locations, including Abington Memorial Hospital, Lansdale Hospital, Abington Health Center – Schilling Campus (in Willow Grove) and Abington Health Center – Warminster Campus. If a biopsy is indicated, our Pathology Department offers special expertise in analyzing test results.
