Thyroid Cancer Treatments
(Also see Cancer / Treatments / Surgery)
Surgical removal of the thyroid gland (thyroidectomy) is often the primary treatment for thyroid cancer. Some lymph nodes may also be removed during surgery.
Some additional testing needed post-surgery, but prior to other therapy for thyroid cancer, may include:
- I-131 whole body scan
- MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)
- CT (computed tomography) scan
- PET (positron emission tomography) scan
- blood tests
Our advanced operating suites, outfitted with the most technologically up-to-date equipment, promote patient safety and best outcomes.
We focus on the human side of the surgical experience as well. In our patient-friendly operating rooms, nurses provide warm support within a calm and healing environment, known as the Sacred Space, that helps put patients at ease. Through soft music, scenic murals, dimmed lighting and our nurses’ gentle touch and dedicated attention, patients receive personal and comforting care.
