Our Facilities and Staff
With acute cardiac care areas located in the same building, immediate direct access between the testing, surgery and post-operative critical care units saves precious seconds when time is crucial. Our dedicated elevator bank connects all areas in the Toll Pavilion, including our Emergency Trauma Center (ground floor) and rooftop helipad.
Testing and treatment are scheduled in the Pilla Heart Center on the fifth floor of the Toll Pavilion. If surgery is necessary, our experienced cardiothoracic surgeons perform the procedure in our leading-edge Operating Suite, first floor, Toll Pavilion. The cardiac surgery rooms are the largest of our suites' 23 operating rooms, measuring approximately 720 square feet. These rooms were specifically constructed to accommodate the latest technology used in cardiac surgery.
The Porter Institute for Valvular Heart Disease is also located on the fifth floor, Toll Pavilion. Patients are evaluated, diagnosed and treated, all within one state-of-the-art facility unique to our region.
Special Expertise for Successful Recovery From Heart Valve Or Heart Surgery
After surgery, patients are transferred to our Cardiac Surgery Unit (CSU) on the third floor of the Toll Pavilion. The unit features technologically advanced monitoring systems and a highly skilled nursing staff with advanced critical care training who are proficient in meeting the special needs of open heart patients.
Immediate results of blood gas studies are available through a dedicated on-site blood gas laboratory. An on-site pharmacy provides for the continually changing needs of the critically ill patient throughout treatment or recovery. In addition, care has been optimized by creating a multidisciplinary service for heart surgery patients. Every patient is cared for jointly by board-certified specialists from cardiology and pulmonary/critical care in addition to the cardiac surgeon.
Linking all units in the Toll Pavilion is the pneumatic tube system that provides swift delivery of specimens and results.
